The Coffee Shop Sessions at The Coffee Shop Cromarty Buildings Strathpeffer IV14 9dg,
As the name would indicate these are intimate listening room shows for a maximum of 30 music lovers, in the friendliest and most comfortable surrounds possible. The Coffee Shop is decorated in a Art Deco style which compliments superbly the genuine roots stylings of an eclectic mix of performers. Our friend Mark and Anna offer home cooked meals and home baking, a full range of hot and cold beverages as well as great their great Coffee. The sweets, cakes and ice-cream are to die for! They also have the Highlands only American Style Soda and Ice Cream Fountain "Sarsaparillas", which is just next door to the Coffee Shop and offers a range of authentic delights in a 50's rock and roll style. The Coffee Shop screens classic silent movies on its permanent movie screen daily and sells these DVD in its gift shop. So a quite cup of coffee brings up a whole new realm of possibilities in the company of the likes of Harold lloyd, Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.
At the heart of The Coffee Shop sessions is a regular twice monthly Thursday Night Open Mic Session "Acoustic Thursday Coffee Shop Sessions" hosted by local blues tinged Chanteuse Emma Shearer, http://houseconcerthub.ning.com/profile/EmmaShearer and feature guest floor spots from local (and not so Local) musicians. If your an artist and fancy playing you need 20 minutes of prepared repertoire, can I suggest if your coming from far a field that you book your spot in advance, such is the clubs popularity (drop us a note if you fancy a spot) however we always try to accommodate anyone turning up with a guitar if at all possible. Entry is by donation and all moneys going to artists expenses. Here is a podcast of the last Coffee Shop Sessions Acoustic Thursday. Emma Shearer & Matt Sillars start of the evening then introduce Bull Fash Stewart, we had new comers to the club Terry and Fi Williams (Gypsy Joe not Gypsy Bill as has come up below), Liza Mulholand and Maryanne Frew joined together to share some songs and our own treasure Tony Wallis preceded the traditional blues Jam. You can listen again above.
The Coffee Shop sessions boast special evenings from time to time, Its dedicated atmosphere has a growing reputation with profile established Folk Music stars of the circuit. We have recently staged shows with Texas Tim Scott, Martin Stephenson, Malcolm Holcombe, Cara Luft, and Benny Gallagher, Rory McLeod, Janette Geri. (Some of them featured on Videos below) Please view our event here for up coming shows and how to secure tickets.
From time to time we have Film Nights where the guest artist accompanies a silent movie instrumentally, before they do their own show.
The Spa Pavilion is the oldest establish Live Music Venue in The Highlands and in its history was the focal point of The Victorian Spa's cultural life, through the decades becoming the focus of the Highland wide Ceilidh Dance world, through to the 60's when it became the focal point of youth culture with the regular dances attracting huge crowed from all over The Highlands and has hosted shows with The Who, and Status Quo, in their early years, the Beatles never did play The Pavilion but they did play Dingwall Town Hall against local advice not to go up against the Pavilion, they pulled 14 people played 30 minutes and every one including The Fab Four ended up going to The Pavilion for the rest of the night. The last show at The old Pavilion before it fell into disrepair was the Stiff Tour with Ian Jury, Nick Low and Reckless Eric etc. This beautiful building was refurbished for the new millennium and has since again hosted, big bands of the age like Casabian, Deacon Blue and The Kaiser Chiefs.
Recently Medicine Wheels have presented shows with The Proclaimers and Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett The Little Feat Guiatr Duo with more to follow watch this space..

Hi folks,
My name's Davey Byrne and im a musician who performs under the title of 'Another Disco Party' (My birhname was already taken!) . Im currently trying to put together a project with a good friend of mine, Grant George, of indie rock band 'The Barents Sea'.
Our plan is to hit the road in April, just ourselves and our guitars and play acoustic sets in as many places as humanly possible over the course of a week or so, and document the entire trip with the intention of putting together a documentary. We currently have a facebook page setup dedicated to the project here
http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Another-Music-Documentary/194535060563714?v=info .
We're not looking for any financial gain from any of these events (although of course donations and help with expenses, even a hot meal, are welcome).
Id be really so so grateful if you can help out in any way, or point us in the direction of some people who would be interested in helping us out. Likewise if you could pass this information on to as many people as possible that would be fantastic.
Kind regards,
Davey Byrne
