Weird Gig

Hello there,

Played quite a bizarre gig last night, the Millennium Music Hall Cardiff. I opened for 'The Tom Jones Experience'; a ten piece tribute band with all the trimmings. I took along my Accordion/percussionist, we played a nice eight song set in front of around 300 people, they were very generous with the applause which was nice because my acoustic style is quite different from the big band sound of '"Tom". Anyway "Tom" and the lads and lasses came on and started burning up the… Continue

Music Industry

Hello again,

The Music Industry has definitely changed! Established acts, record companies, publishers etc. are all intent on guarding what they have achieved, the inner sanctum has been ring fenced to allow those within to secure access to airplay, Tv, Distribution and such. Writers used to be able to mail (solicited or unsolicited) songs off to Publishers and Artists and have a chance of getting the song listened to. Now Publishers have their quota of songs and writers already, they are… Continue

Waiting

Hello again, well I've just come back home from a four hour meet with Viv Thomas; Cameraman/film maker, very interesting and we are going to make some vids. The first will take place on Sat September 11th, we do a video of me performing 'Waiting' in some kind of Rural setting; very simple, followed by an interview.

I'll put the mp3 of 'Waiting ' up on here in a few minutes so you can take a listen, If anyone has any ideas let me know?

I've been thinking of doing a fortnightly… Continue

Album and stuff

Hello Everyone, What a great site this is!

It's raining outside so I thought I'd take a bit of time out to send cds off to Reviewers and Radio Stations. The 'Play something we know' cd is going great, I've had airplay on Frank Hennessey's 'Celtic Heartbeat' show on BBC Wales, he's played a couple of songs and true to form I missed them both, ah well hopefully there will be more.

I've stripped my Live set-up down to either me solo or me playing with Liz (my Accordionist/Djembe Player)… Continue

Hi Alan,
Yeah, what do you do? Where are you based? I'll have a listen too, but I'd be interested in putting you on. You won't get rich at one of our gigs (we have an honesty bowl and a suggested donation of a fiver or so from fifteen or twenty punters), but the fame and the glory will have to do (and you usually get to flog a few CDs)...
cheers

Hi Alan,
The Amsterdam Songwriters Guild organizes every Tuesday a open mic session with loads of different musicians.
We don't do "regular" gigs at the BackStage Hotel, only very rearly. We host artists who mainly play the Paradiso and Melkweg, two nearby venues and we don't want to be "competition for them because they are our main clients.
Thank you very much for your friendship and whenever you're around just pop in!
Best regards,
Hans

A New Jess Wayne Review - Somehow Overlooked from 3 Years Ago

Just found this from the "Miews". I think it says some interesting things, particularly about ageism in music and the treatment of older singer songwriters. I think my feelings were hurt when he or she only gave a "6" on Vocals... but as I read on, not so bad in context. :) JESS WAYNE – RIDE THE RIVER (MUSIC REVIEW)RATING: 7.5 / 10Genre: Rock, Blues, AmericanaSongwriting: 8.5 | Music: 8 | Vocals: 6Location: Glendale, CAWebsite: www.jesswayne.comFor fans…See More
