About Me
Meet four classically trained washboard & kazoo players, once described eloquently as 'Hillbillies with mobile phones'. Hailing from the green hills and valleys of 'Lawrence country' ... some say, these folks have spent too long in the woods drinking moonshine!

Mean and moody, they can break your heart (Bluebird, When I Fly) or skiffle you to submission with their high octane drinking & songs of deathly demise (White Jesus, Sad Eyed Latinos) . . . . it's a kind of "UpNoirthicana" . . . . Psycho-skiffle through to lo-fi Country/Folk . . . Sip some moonshine liquour and enjoy! ... "10 out 10 for entertainment" (DJ wiggy) ... and 'never bland!'

Escape This Wicked Life ... EP Release

DH Lawrence & The Vaudeville Skiffle Show announce the release of their debut six-track album ‘Escape This Wicked Life’. This is a collection of original songs written by the band members.

This album is inspired by traditional American mountain and country sounds, as well as English traditional folk. Lyrically, the album provides stories of life, loss, lonesomeness and death. Being from DH Lawrence country (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire), the songs are further influenced by local tradition and narratives.

DH Lawrence & The Vaudeville Skiffle Show consists of four core members, and act as a collective including other local musicians. They are: Misk Hills Mountain Rambler III; The Reverend D Wright; Sister Stevie-Leigh; Minin’ Bill Kerry III.

‘Escape This Wicked Life’ track details:

  1. Bluebird (Wright) 2’56’’...Featured on this site
  2. Honey (Kerry) 2’28’’ ... featured on this site
  3. White Jesus (Taylor) 3’47’’
  4. Sad Eyed Latinos (Kerry) 3’35’’
  5. Wide Open Spaces (Taylor) 3’31’’
  6. The Pretty Girl With The Golden Hair (Goodison) 3’39’’

Total running time: 19’41’’

Suggested genres:  ‘Americana’; ‘Country’; ‘Folk’; ‘Skiffle’

Official album marketing notes:

“Quality Folk enriched Americana from the British heartlands … a remarkable debut” No Depression

“The brilliant debut album presents songs of lonesomeness, heart-break, drinking and loss telling it straight from the mountains with little more than a banjo, guitar and a washboard.

Hailing from the green hills and valleys of 'Lawrence country' some say that these folks have spent too long in the woods drinking moonshine. Mean and moody, they can break your heart or skiffle you to submission with their octane-fuelled drinking songs. It's a kind of "Up-Noirthicana" . Psycho-skiffle through to lo-fi Country/Folk sung by men of the woods. If they are not singing hanging songs in the darkness of the trees, then they're picking mushrooms or elderberries and sloes to make ruby red liquor to help them through the deep darkness of winter. Light a candle, sip some whiskey and enjoy. DH Lawrence & The Vaudeville Skiffle Show wish “Peace to y'all”

'Santa Sleighed My Gal' ... Could this be the antidote to SLADE?

Seems Misky stumbled upon this scary story about Santa Claus and made it into a Christmas song with a couple of  random #skifflers n' folk who got press ganged into singing ... It's a dark story of infidelity and madness and a welcome relief from SLADE at Christmas .... "It was late Christmas eve when he came down my flue...." ENJOY

Struggling for that unique Christmas present....?

You can download the song or e-mail to the one you love (...or don't!)
