David Leask - The Bio
"Leask brings to his music a compellingly honest baring of the soul" Toronto Star
"Leask writes great songs... I've added him to an amazing group of talent that includes John Prine, Joe Henry and John Hiatt." Brandon Sun
Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, David Leask has been writing, performing and recording his original music for over 25 years. Since moving to Canada in 1992, he has produced three critically-acclaimed CD's, one Juno nomination and a bag full of songwriting awards. David is the recipient of the Mississauga Established Performing Artist of the Year Award, an honour previously bestowed upon Oscar Peterson and Rik Emmett by Canada’s 6th largest city. A musical journeyman, he has performed over 2000 shows in the last 17 years, from intimate house concerts to large outdoor festivals. David has embraced the rootsy Canadian influences of his new home and blended them with the Celtic and melodic-pop sensibilities of his homeland. His music moves his listeners both emotionally and physically with his infectious groove-based songs of substance - real life stories intelligently crafted in sonic landscapes that stay with you long after the last note is played. His songwriting talent has been recognized in numerous international songwriting awards including a two-time winner of the International Songwriting Contest and a three-time winner of the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals “Songs From The Heart” competition.
A talented multi-instrumentalist with a sharp Scottish wit, David’s live show is always musically rich, high energy and heart-felt, whether he’s playing solo or backed by top notch side players. He has shared the stage with such artists as the Waterboys, Valdy, Natalie MacMaster and the Barra MacNeil's at venues across the country where he continues to captivate audiences with the intensity his performance and the disarming honesty of his songs.
