About Me
Hi, I'm Jefferson Ross, a Southern singer/songwriter from the U.S. My songs tell a vivid story and I'm a warm, engaging kind of guy. Please check out my website or go to www.myspace.com/jeffrossmusic to find out more about me and my music. Peace, love and new guitar strings-Jefferson Ross

Jefferson Ross "THE BIO"

In the spirit of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt, Jefferson’s story driven songs paint musical portraits and textures that you will not forget. Jefferson Ross is the type of guy who has traveled the world and yearns for that but still feels at home where the dogwoods and azaleas bloom; where Faulkner, Wolfe and Capote still inform yet barbeque, collard greens, shrimp and grits still comfort. Ross, who has written songs for major label Nashville acts, has chosen to work and share his craft in a more hand-made fashion. His debut album, AZALEA, is all acoustic and story driven...rough hewn yet finely tuned. Singles from the album have reached the Top 5 in European charts but it is a southern album through and through. The British press has said that, "As a songwriter, he's in the same league as Jesse Winchester, Guy Clark and Rodney Crowell...as a singer, he's his own man and, as a for making records, he's in a class all his own." Jefferson engages an audience in an intimate way with warm humor and interesting stories about the songs and is a natural conversationalist on a broad number of topics. Aside from his musical acumen, he also is an acclaimed cook, wine expert and commissioned painter. His work hangs in the homes of celebrities in the Nashville area. In March of 2010, Ross will return to Berlin, Germany, to celebrate both 20 years since he lived there and 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. He is filming an indie documentary commemorating the event. Jefferson Ross and his wife and daughter reside in both Nashville, TN, and Savannah, Ga.

JAMMING ON TYBEE ISLAND

It's a dark winter's night on Tybee Island.  Up and down Tybrisa Street, near the pier, the souvenir shops have all closed and a brisk breeze is whipping from the beach, only a few yards away.  The neon glow of Doc's Bar spills out onto the sidewalk and as you step inside you hear the ringing of old guitars and the throaty strains of harmonicas and singing.

Huddled in the back room, in a circle facing inward, sit the strumming, humming, picking, grinning members of Doc's…

NOW I'M MAKING MUSIC (A Few Thoughts About Larry Jon Wilson)

It seems that everywhere I turn these days folks are eulogizing the music industry and what I think they're doing, me included, is eulogizing their own hopes and dreams....the dream of the big hit, the cash bonanza, the big burrito full of cabbage. I even heard millionaire and legendary songwriting icon, Smokey Robinson, the other day on TV saying that we've gone back to 'the era of the minstrel, where everyone is making music but no one is… Continue

LET THE COWBOY RIDE: An Ode to Cowboy Jack Clement

...

I don't know why but Cowboy Jack Clement has been on my mind lately.

I made music in Nashville for a quarter century and one thing that I learned in Twang town was, "Never Meet Your Heroes". They do not live up to your fantasies...any of them. I met too many of those poor megalomaniacs but I never met Jack Clement and maybe that's why I've been thinking about him. I… Continue

THE BLOOD PUDDING TOUR

England felt downright balmy after the blustery bite of Berlin. Jean jacket weather. I was giddy and ready for a walkabout.

My British manager, Lee Williams, had booked some shows in London and throughout southern England and I dubbed it The Blood Pudding Tour, named after that breakfast delicacy pretty much unknown to us Yanks.

No need to recount each show but some highlights shine more than others.

The Halfmoon Putney is a wonderful, old pub in South London… Continue

Edinburgh in May would work. I just need to know that date fairly soon. I have some people setting up dates for me and I should let them know, ASAP, when I am booking other stuff. I think that it would be fun though. I'm touring southern England in March so I'll probably just stick with Scotland and maybe Ireland in May. I hope that we can work together though! Thanks so much for the invite! Cheers-Jeff

Sounds good! Apparently, there are a ton of us headed over there around that time. Must be our economy. :-p

Good luck!

Looking for house concerts for piano trio January 4-8.

I'll be traveling in Northern Europe with my traditional jazz and American roots music piano trio in early January.
