About Me
My music has been my passion since I was a kid growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina in a family steeped in song and stories. To give you an idea of my career so far here's a few facts & highlights..
I'm an American Grammy Nominee, award winning acoustic guitarist, performing singer/songwriter, Master Appalachian Storyteller, Nashville published songwriter and ASCAP writer. I tour internationally playing authentic bluegrass/country/folk , all original material so would really enjoy getting involved in the house concert scene. I've co-billed with top artists such as Dolly Parton, Ralph Stanley, Marty Stewart, and many others. I've also written and co-written songs for top country music performers.
As a singer/songwriter I've performed at many high profile events in the USA, Canada, The UK, and Mainland Europe. such as the Edinburgh International Storytelling Festival, The Bath International Music Festival, Belfast Nashville Singer/Songwriter Festival, The Merle Fest.. the list goes on and I enjoy every one!
I'm an all round performer and entertainer, mixing my music with humor told in the Appalachian Dialect. As an authentic Appalachian Storyteller coming from a family rich in the heritage of storytelling, that's my other passion and the second string to my bow as a performer. My late cousin Ray Hicks was voted into the Smithsonian Institute by members of Congress as a National Treasure. and I'm the last of this heritage. It's been my privilege to appear and work with great storytellers David Holt, Dan Yashinsky, Milbre Burch, and others at world renowned festivals .
Drop me a line at my website, I'm also a pretty nice guy (not to mention modest) and would love to hear from you all!

Interview with Northern Sky Online Music Magazine at the Beverley Festival 2011

I had a fantasu=ic time at the Beverley Festival, fronting up the Americana Concert, holding performing workshops, storytelling sessions, the the Grand Finale concert, playing just before Bellowhead. It was an awesome festival with an astounding array and range of talent, name it, they were there. And the people..I can't say enough about the friendliness and professionalism of the  festival team, nor can I express my appreciation fully for the wonderful welcome by the audiences…

New website now LIVE - Please check it out!

Hey guys

After much hard work and scratching of heads my new website is up and running. I would love for you all to take a look and give me some feedback which I would truly appreciate.

There's plenty more to be added but it's a great start and I like the new contemporary look, plus this is so much more interactive.

Now all I need do is wrap my mind round these widget things I hear so much about, not to mention apps..but hey, gotta roll with the time.

Highland Tour with Rob Ellen

I recently had the privilege of spending a couple days in the Highlands with Rob Ellen. To say it was fun would be understated. Rob showed me some extremely interesting things, and of course I saw the home of the mysterious Lock Ness Monster himself.

I had a couple performances and the people in the area were very supportive and truly gracious people.

I can say only the same thing for Rob and his lovely partner Ann.

Rob videoed both shows as well as both radio interviews. I am… Continue
