I've Been Waylaid

Just as my new CD was released, and after I had played two successful CD release parties, and just as things were starting to look very promising, I was waylaid by another health issue. In a blog I wrote sometime ago, I think I talked about being diagnosed with Raynaud's Disease, which greatly restricts or stops the bloodflow to the fingers on both hands. Well, on December 23rd, I was practicing for my third CD release party, which was coming up on December 26th. I was practicing one of the…See More

Sometimes Stuff Just Happens

I don't usually do alot of blogging, but I thought in this case, I needed to explain the recent sparseness of my calender. Sparse is probably not the correct word. Barren would most likely be a better choice.About six months ago, I started having some pain in my fingers, when I played guitar, or practiced my guitar playing. Before long the pain became excruciating, and my fingers began to turn red and swell. The symptoms were worse, anytime I picked up ice to put in my glass, or when I carried…See More

About Me
Jerry T. Yates is the recipient of the "2008 Roots Music Association Gospel Artist of the Year Award", an accomplishment he achieved in November 2008. Both fans and members of the Roots Music Association nominated Jerry, along with four other artists and/or groups, in the Roots Gospel category, including Ricky Skaggs and The Blind Boys of Alabama.
Rev. Yates has previously been nominated for the International Country Gospel Music Association's Male Vocalist of the Year, and he won the New Male Vocalist of the Year From Georgia Award, in 1994. He was nominated in 2007 and 2008, for "Male Vocalist", "Country Artist" and twice for "Acoustic Artist of the Year" in Indieheaven's Momentum Awards, as well as past nominations for various awards from the Country Gospel Music Guild. Jerry has received five(5) "Emerald Awards", one for each month he had one of the most played songs on Gospel Radio. He was given the "Emerald Awards" by his radio promoter, RhonBob Promotions, in Kodak, TN., www.rhonbob.com.
JerryT. Yates became interested in music at age four, when he saw Elvis Presley performing on the Ed Sullivan TV Show, in 1956. Yates said that performance by Elvis, "Ruined" him for life.
The first nine years of his life, Jerry lived in the far, Northwest corner of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains, in Ashe County, and just about 10 minutes from what is still the home of one of the world's greatest guitar pickers, Doc Watson. However, Jerry's family moved to the small town of Fairburn, GA., in 1961 and settled in for the long haul.
The first public performance for Jerry was a 7th grade, class talent show, in which he played his guitar and sang, "On the Wings of a Dove". From there he played and performed in various rock 'n' roll bands, and after high school, he began playing Country Music in honky-tonks, bars, festivals, etc., and even became quite popular regionally, as an Elvis impersonator.
One December night, in 1978, while alone at home, watching TV, Jerry heard a "Voice" say, "I want you to preach." He began preparations immediately. He started telephoning friends, who played guitar, bass, and drums, and he formed a Contemporary/Country Christian band.
Today, as a solo performer, Rev. Jerry T. Yates puts his Christian lyrics to his own style of Country Blues and Rockabilly, throwing in some Old-Time Country Gospel, or Spirituals.
Jerry loves to perform anytime, anywhere, and he may be contacted for bookings, or to purchase CDs at jkyates@bellsouth.net, or (770)252-9176. Jerry's CDs can also be purchased, with the use of a credit card at:

Thanks Jerry,
the only instrument I didn't play was the saxophone. That was my son. The 3 songs are from my new CD "Murujuga". All original songs, most are about Australia. BTW I plan another US tour from mid August to mid September 2010. I'm already booked for three festivals but still looking for additional gigs. If you have any idea, please let me know.
Best wishes and a good night from Germany
Andy
