BIOGRAPHY
'When all the trends fade and become dated, and all the music from the cutting edge becomes dull, Linda McRae will continue to stand tall, singing and playing music with honest soul and humility, cutting through the fog with timeless clarity. Linda is one of the true, soulful pioneers of honest roots music. Her singing and playing brings honor to her heroes and to her friends and fans." - Colin Linden
Linda is a Canadian, Juno nominated, Platinum and Gold recording artist. After her tenure as bassist/accordionist/vocalist with Spirit of the West, Linda left the band in 1997 to resume her solo career and has since released three critically acclaimed FolkRoots/Americana recordings. Flying Jenny produced by Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn) featured a high-powered roster of Canadian talent. Cryin’ Out Loud was produced by Gurf Morlix (Lucinda Williams, Slaid Cleaves, Mary Gauthier) and Linda's current release Carve It To The Heart was produced by Linda and Marc L’Esperance (Po' Girl, Ray Condo). All three Cd’s have distribution in the US, Europe and Canada.
Linda has studied with Grammy winning songwriter Jon Vezner and clawhammer banjo aficionado Brad Leftwich and the banjo has become an integral part of Linda’s work.
Linda's busy tour schedule reflects her love for performing having completed 200 shows last year alone. She is a compelling entertainer and her personality and storytelling add an intimacy to her shows regardless of the size of venue. Her evocative and powerful voice is well supported with the addition of her acoustic finger-style and flatpick rhythm guitar, clawhammer banjo, and Porchboard bass.
Linda's musical journey took her to Nashville where she now lives performing regularly alongside Nashville’s premier songwriters. I am including a link to a performance this past October at one of Nashville’s most most-respected venues, 3rd & Lindsley with special guest Colin Linden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxmbaS6nKvg
In addition to her busy touring schedule, she writes a monthly column for BC Musician's Magazine entitled "This Winding Road" and is currently working on her next recording scheduled for release next spring.
