Eliza Gilkyson Trio http://www.elizagilkyson.com
Eliza played her first ever UK shows in the Highlands, so its fitting that she brings her Festival Combo to Scotland for the first time to open up the Tartan Heart Fringe for this exclusive Scottish Show.
Austin-based singer/songwriter Eliza Gilkyson grew up in Los Angeles, the daughter of successful songwriter Terry Gilkyson. Her rather musical upbringing included demos that Eliza recorded of her father's work, as well as other musical ventures. She moved to New Mexico in the late 1960s, where she began performing and touring regionally with the Ark Band.
She later moved to Europe to work with composer Andreas Vollenweider. Returning to the States in the late 1990s, Gilkyson began releasing a series of critically acclaimed solo albums. She also started her own label (Realiza Records) in 1999. A year later, she released an album on Red House Records, for whom she's recorded ever since.
In all, Gilkyson has released 14 CDs. She was inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. Her album Land of Milk and Honey was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Jim Hunter All the way from down town GlenUig, Jim is a firm fan of Eliza’s and a firm favourite in Lochaber and beyond, a hidden Scottish Treasure in many ways. He has just released a new album Coastlines with Jim Michie & Chris Pritchard MPH
Tim Scott takes his place among those who have come before him—the ones who supported and guided him on his journey.—Dan Fogelberg, John Lennon, George Harrison and Warren Zevon. The lyrics say it all, There’s a common thread between us though we often stumble, we rarely fall.” That common thread is the ability to take a handful of words, a few chords and a shitload of honesty to grab people right where they live.
Tickets £10 in advance £12 at door if any are left)

Grass Roots UK Festival Award 2008 For Belladrum Festival
Thanks to every one who rolled up there sleeves for the fringe and Belladrum, The Tartan Heart Fringe and The Potting Shed Stage 2008 in the run up, on what turned out to be an award filled year.
I couldn't think of a better award to be recognised for.
Often the best small festivals spring from an organic labour of love and a long-time dream which has been shared by thousands more. These festivals should be celebrated, not just for the courage and vision shown by their organisers, but also because they never forget where they've come from, supporting their local communities and new music along the way whilst retaining an independent spirit and resisting the allure of commercial sponsorship. http://www.festivalawards.com
Much of that spirit of Belladrum and what brought this attention is the good work you guys do for your community and for us, so thanks again looking forward to 2009.
The Tartan Heart Fringe has a record of being first to find talent and bring them to the Highlands IE Seasick Steve, Mia Riddle, Blou Robberto Cassani. The proverbial "Hard Acts To Follow"

Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival is set to capitalise on its superb Highland setting with a mountain bike race for all ages organised by Fringe and potting shed sponsors Square Wheels Cycles of Strathpeffer. The two day festival of music and performing arts will offer ‘Sweaty Bella’ on Saturday 8th August, a race through the beautiful policy woodlands of Belladrum Estate which hosts the event.
Open only to festival ticket-holders, riders will encounter a mix of forest road, single track paths and wooden features. The course will be timed laps over three miles and will last about two hours. There will be a race for 10 to 14-year-olds and 15-year-olds upwards. Besides the two main races, a variety of other prizes will be on offer.

My hope is we'll all use this area as a forum for debating the important issues of modern life and what role music has in this new world order, and where house concerts fit in <;-)> Plenty of time for all that, (20 or 30 years before the ice caps melt by liberal estimates). So lets have some fun and get to know each other a bit first. Please feel free to add anything here that tickles your fancy.
