Been gone a while...

Family stuff has kept me away. But I am inspired to return, having just received the latest progress on my Brook Torridge - being built for me by the lovely, lovely people at Brook Guitars in Devon. The neck's now in place and the bog oak, through-bridge has been attached. Hopefully I shall be able to drive down an take delivery of it in the first week of September. Cannot wait. Sitka spruce top, English yew back and sides, walnut neck and headstock, bog oak fretboard. Walnut purfling, Robson…See More

Sweet toothed serpent

Just checked out Viper Central on the Medicine Show. Completely unable to prevent my toes from tapping and hands reaching for the jug of moonshine stashed beneath my workbench. What a rich, sweet jangle of strings and tangle of voices. Casts a spell not quite like anything I've heard before. Take that pretty girl by the hand and climb through the mountain mist and scent of pine resin, for this is courtly music with burred edges. Lovely.

What's in a word (or two)?

I wrote, a blog or two ago, "John Barleycorn beware".It appears I wasn't kidding. I have finally set myself to learning it, and delighting in developing a guitar part for it (that I can actually play). I've taken as my model Chris Wood's version and before that a version by Martin Carthy - so plenty to try and live up to there I think.I absolutely love this song; it's deep, deep resonance with that part of me descended from Cotswold peasantry perhaps. Or simply because I worship the English…See More

About Me
I'm a Singer/songwriter.

My songs are English pastoral - of a modern English melancholy. I'm from the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. I lived in California for 12 years, but back in England now, to stay; here, with my wife and children, are where my bones belong.

Mine is a deep love affair with our soft and savage, fragile and friable rural England; each coppice and spinney, stonewall and stile, washing line and wickergate, beermug and barstool, has a story to tell, which I try to put in my songs, songs with a foot in the past and an eye to the future.

It's the lack that promises the lustre

Out walking my dog Jack today and noted the lack of any greenery still, in hedgerow or verge. But I can FEEL it's there, green sap silently rising, hesitant but inexorable. Going to run full tilt into the arms of the Spring Goddess. Which may give her a bit of a shock. And provided the old knee holds up. Jotted down a few words for a song that might be. God I love the English countryside - its reassuring yet fragile permanence. 900 year old Saxon church in the foreground, thumping great power… Continue

Once in a while, out of the blue, comes a communication from someone or something new. There's always a bit of trepidation in that. But boy, today am I glad for this whole online networking thing and in particular since I joined House Concert Hub. Pray why I hear you ask? Well, Roosevelt Bandwagon dropped me a few lines, and so off I trotted to their myspace, had a listen, and that was all it took - I am transported by their music. Quite simply fabulous, genuine, real and deeply engaging. Chalk me down as a fan and tell me when I can go see them at a house concert. Hug your House, Tim

Hi,

Hope you’re having a great day. Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you a little about Roosevelt Bandwagon:

Roosevelt Bandwagon's personnel currently reside in London, UK. The band comprises a fluid line-up of extremely experienced musicians who have been writing, recording and touring internationally in various guises for many years. The ethos is to play the music that comes most naturally to its members with absolutely no consideration whatsoever for the trends, fashions and formulae of the commercial music industry.

Having played house concerts many times in the States in years gone by we love the idea of the House Concert Hub – it is certainly more focused than other social networking sites and far more friendly!!!

We’re currently doing sessions for a full length album which should be ready by May of this year. In the mean time, we have put out the ‘Train Roll On’ EP. We have a limited edition of free pressings which we’re mailing out to those people who request it – hurry and drop us a line before we run out! Tracks can also be heard on our home page/ visit us on myspace: www.myspace.com/rooseveltbandwagon where you can download the tracks for free.

Do please drop us a line – we’d love to hear your thoughts on our music/ have you as a friend.

Best wishes & have a great weekend.
