Hello!      Let me introduce myself.  My name is Dickie Lee Erwin.  I live and tour out of Austin, Texas.  I write, compose and perform Texas-style country, Americana music.  I have 7 independently released albums to date.  I'm planning a tour with a 4 piece band, of Europe in the last half of July (15-31st) or last half of August (15th-30th)...whichever works out of booking the most dates.     The 4 piece band consisting of electric guitar, bass, acoustic guitar/banjo and drums.  We are…See More

About Me
Dickie Lee's birthplace, Hobbs, New Mexico, borders a part of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico that is fertile ground for producing musicians. Several small towns and cities within a hundred miles of Hobbs are the birthplaces of many famous names in the music business, including Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Mac Davis, Gary P. Nunn, Sonny Throckmorton, and the legendary Norman Petty Studio. That proximity is incidental, but nonetheless, Dickie Lee's roots are authentic. If genetics mean anything, they mean a lot, as evidenced by Dickie Lee's family, including brother Ron Erwin, a noted rock and country drummer.

Growing up on farms kept Dickie Lee scrappy and honest. He studied art in college but dropped out just short of finishing to work in the oilfields. In the fall of 1978, after a particularly nasty, dirty day, Dickie Lee said to hell with it and moved to Austin to pursue a music career.

He arrived during a time many consider the halcyon days for Austin Music. It was grand for Dickie. From his 1980s award-winning bluegrass band Erwin Prather, mid-1980s’ band Seven Samurai (Ronnie Lane’s original Austin acoustic band) on to his nationally syndicated performance on The Texas Connection, Dickie Lee met success. Tours of Europe and the East Coast followed.

The 90s saw Dickie Lee cut back on his professional playing to work on raising his son, Rowdy. Since the late 90s Dickie Lee's focus on his musical career has been growing steadily.

After touring with the great Dallas PUNK-GRASS band KILLBILLY, Erwin released the CD THERE’S A MOVIE GOIN ON, produced by Scrappy Judd Newcomb, in 1999; and then the much loved TEXAS MIDNIGHT HIGHWAY, produced by Hunt Sales, in 2003. In 2006 Dickie Lee produced his album POPPIN JOHNNY.

His latest work, SWAN, was released in late 2009. The swan is a mythological symbol for the bird of life and the dawn of the day and is the divine bird that laid on the waters the Cosmic Egg, the golden egg from which the Brahma sprang. A year in recording and production, SWAN is the springboard for the next phase of Dickie Lee's musical career. At this present time Swan is getting "spin" reports form 53 U.S. stations!

Poised and prepared, Dickie Lee can play solo for smaller venues or bring the whole band, The Swingin' Dickies, and keep a large crowd on the edge of their seats with his stories and music.
