"MEDICINE in the modern sense is perceived to be a treatment for ailment, but in the ancient sense particularly in the minds of Native Americans, medicine is all that is good in nature connecting the spirit world with the physical. The Medicine of music can be a direct connection with all it is to be human and also our best prescription for the disconnecting-ailments of our modern culture"

In the the glaring publicity light of this Scotland's first House Concert run in with the authorities, http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/scotland/article3720227.ece can I first sympathise with Douglas. He isn't a member of www.houseconcert.eu but I would urge him to join and relate his problems with the other 150 so hosts and 1,700 members, he will have valuable insights for us all. I haven't read a statement from Douglas in his own words yet, it would be good to get his side of the story, not just how the sensationalising press would like to relate it.
That being said I feel I need to take this opportunity to re-iterate the golden rules of House Concerts.

Well I'm totally Folked, I'm heart sore and travel weary but I can only say anyone interested in music should witness and pay witness to Folk Alliance at least once in their life. Its something I never thought possible, a music industry event that is all about the artists community, its driven by the artists and is all about the music. The business is there and the business gets done but music is all consuming, all pervading its on all 5 floors in every room, its in the stair wells, on the stares, in the lifts, and everywhere you look, its amazing. I got to go on invitation to be on a panel about House Concerts representing The Euro House Concert Hub at …

Thanks to a grant from Creative Scotland (Cant take the camper to Canada) that will pay my flights and Steve Squarewheels Macdonald who has a credit card that works, I am going to Folk Alliance 2013 in Toronto.
Ive been invited on a panel to talk about Euro House Concerts. If you feel like helping me find a bed for the night as well (I'm told sleeping in the park this time of year in Toronto isn't much fun) and you live in Toronto, I'll put some beer in the fridge and bring a nice bottle of Malt.

hello rob ,
thanks for adding me as a friend ! look forward to getting to know more about you and this great site that your running. your providing a wonderful service to the music and all that love it . keep up the great work !!! and strive to be even more involved going forward for we need people like you to carry the torch of great music. Cheers !!
Hi Rob
Sorry it's been so long for me to comment back - since my first contact was made back in 2009! I hadn't forgotten you - just spent too many years being ill to find the time to make contact - still things are looking up at last! There is only one local true "house Concert" I know of - and they are only a couple of times a year (mainly artists I don't know/like!).
The nearest thing to a House Concert I can offer anyone is a night at the Stortfolk! Folk Club - the playing "rules" are identical - but the money is only 80% of the income on the door (since we hire a room - we have to pay for that! ) However we are a non-profit organisation so often people get more than the 80% Even so we tend to pay badly!
I see that a number of people tried to reach me over the past year or so - so sorry for the lack of replies - try again while I'm fit enough to answer! I'll be happier to support you financially when I've worked out what the site can do for me - can I promote the club/programme through your pages if only to attract similar artists for future possible bookings
Kind regards
Jon
