About Me
Primarily an artist looking for work at house concerts, but also have the venue and nouce to run house concerts from my studio attached to my home.
musically, i'm an international standard lap slide guitarist, singer/songwriter with a growing fan base and reputation. I gig, teach and do some session/recording work for other artists. I have
3 cds on general release and a decent gig list, book early to avoid disappointment as I might be washing my hair that day!

BIOG and stuff for fans of stuff

This is Frank not Tom. Frank is featred in Hound Dog Blues; (he comes from the pound) and is much better looking than his owner. As this site is full of pictures of musos, I thought Frank might make a pleasant change. He doesn't come to Tom's gigs anymore as people got fed up of him stealing their pies and ale.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1WQ3qG456I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAbtWG3YZqc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ePw-57wgDs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smT-Ij7IF94

Tom is one of the most original new artists I have heard in a long time. With his unique approach to guitar and his vocal interpretations of traditional and his original tunes, he has managed to create music that is all his own. His playing and
vocal style comes from that natural place great music comes from - personal expression, honest and right from the heart. The music just flows." Woody Mann.

As a child, Tom first learnt his craft through interpreting what he heard on records and later through watching other guitar players. As an early teenager, Tom had become an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist and recalls playing the Davey Graham tune ‘Angie’ at a school concert. He was, and still is avid listener and admirer of other musicians. Early influences included Renbourn and Jansch, Martin Carthy, Nic Jones, Big Bill Broonzy and Led Zeppelin.

Tom adopted that same method of interpretation when he devoted time to learning lap slide instruments, finding his music with the tenacity and creativity of a new explorer. This attitude to the instrument has enabled him to develop new and unique techniques for playing slide guitar, with structures and voicing that are instantly recognisable as ‘his’ sound.

“Tom Doughty is possessed of a deep musical soul, that magic link between feeling and movement which makes the slide guitar such an individual instrument. His touch is wide ranging, and his music is full of big feeling. In a world of derivative and imitative slide guitarists, Tom’s sound is unique and special.” Bob Brozman

2009 has seen Tom release his third album ‘Have a Taste of This’ which further showcases his songwriting skills with tracks like ‘Zimbabwe’ and the haunting ‘Nobody’s Fault’. Released to critical acclaim like his first two albums (which have been featured on national radio and played worldwide), ‘Have a Taste of This’ sees another stage in the continuing development of this remarkable musician.

‘Defining Tom as an Acoustic Blues guitarist is too small to convey the range of moods and styles in his playing.’ Jim Gillan, RocknReel Magazine.

Or to put it in the words of Michael Prince in a recent review,
“Tom’s music is organic and free. A must see performer”

„Lyrics like a punch in the gut, painfully reminding you of your own wounds“. (Christian Elsrodt / Folker! Magazine)

Kent Nielsen is Danish but living in Lübeck (North Germany). He’s got a history as an author, percussionist, shoe shop clerk, record label guy, mail order honcho, night porter and ukulele player a. o.

He just completed an old project – his first „solo album“. Roughly half of the roots rock colored Songs were written together with Stefan Kletetzka (DEEP RIVER), some are brand new while a couple Dates back to Kent and Stefan’s time in ONE BAR TOWN. Four covers were added, one by JOHN HARTFORD and another three originally written by GLEN CAMPBELL, EDDIE & THE HOT RODS and C.V. JØRGENSEN featuring Kent solo on the ukulele. Three more songs, drenched in Mod and 60s sounds, were written together with Helge Reich (JAM TODAY). The album also includes guest appearances from George Whitfield (FIDDLEBOX, ex-PRESSGANG) and Martin Wenk (CALEXICO, NADA SURF, JUDITH HOLOFERNES).

Dear Tom: I See Hawks In L.A. are releasing two records in May: our own and an EP collaboration with the Good Intentions which turned out quite well. We plan on touring UK/Ireland this summer.

It's a bit of short notice (our agent Bob Butler of Grapevine has sadly passed away), but if you have a slot for us we'd love to play one of your concerts. Our tour window is July through mid-August, though we could head over earlier if that's when most of the shows are happening.

Rob Ellen will give us a hearty recommendation! We are southern California's leading alt country folk band. We've done 3 or 4 tours of UK/Ireland, have been in the Euro Americana chart top ten 3 times, and have Geraint of G Promo PR on board. He got us great press and BBC appearances last time and will be invaluable in promoting live shows. My email is below, can send you our bio and sneak preview of our forthcoming CDs.

Here is a listening link to all seven of our previous releases and live shows: https://iseehawksinla.bandcamp.com/

Thanks!

Dear Tom, hello. My name is Ivor Game, a singer and songwriter from London. I play lots of acoustic shows across the UK and beyond, including  Ireland and Scotland many times, The Netherlands, releasing albums and singles along the way. I have enjoyed nice radio play too, from BBC6 and other BBCs, to national across Australia, Japan, Europe and America. I have also been played a few times on The Netherlands AVRO, Radio 2 and Acoustic FM and have had nice reviews in New Folk Sounds Magazine. I also recently enjoyed a lovely review for my album Dizzy Spells on Denmarks Gaffa.de and I think I may have been played on Alex Madsens P4 radio show. I love playing my little songs to cosy rooms, and have played many a small coffee bar, and intimate spaces before. You can hear lots of songs, and see a few videos like I Like Being at Home, on http://www.ivorgame.com and more songs on http://www.soundcloud.com/ivorgame. I hope you like the tunes and can consider me for a house concert. Thank you. Hope to hear from you. Kindest regards, Ivor. Ivor Game  ivorgame@btinternet.com

Hi Tom,

I was wondering if I could get a moment if your time to listen to something?
It's the title track from Terry Emm's new album. I am booking shows for Terry in 2014 and thought he might suit the music events you put on.

Terry's music has recently had airplay from legendary DJ Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2. Bob described Terry's music as 'excellent, excellent music' and has had him in for a live session. BBC 6 Music DJs Gideon Coe, Chris Hawkins and Tom Robinson have also spun his tracks regularly alongside many regional stations. Terry has recently shared the stage with the likes of; Amy Wadge, Richard Walters, Danny & The Champs, Jackie Leven, Judith Owen, Red Dirt Skinners and many others.
MOJO magazine have described his music as 'pastoral, romantic and lit musically by summer rays…no routine singer- songwriter offering but some-thing totally engaging in melody and lyric' in a 4 star review.
It'd be interesting to see what you think to his music and great if you could consider him for a show.
Thanks very much,
Theo Hall

Hi Tom

I am looking for shows in very early September 2013 for USA/California-based acoustic finger-style guitar player Brian Gore (see http://guitarpoet.com), the 'guitar poet'.
We needs shows in early September ...

SEPTEMBER 2013
Sun  1 to Fri  6   available
Sat 7 and Sun 8 London Acoustic Guitar Show (Olympia) tbc

Brian will be in Germany doing some work with the great guitarist Lulo Reinhardt (grand-nephew of Django) in late August.  Brian is a fluent German speaker and can easily give a full concert or a workshop or masterclass entirely in German.  He could also do this in Spanish, although perhaps a little less fluently.
Brian has a good track record over here since he's also the brains behind the annual touring guitar festival called the International Guitar Night, which Stoneyport has worked for in the UK since 2007.  See http://www.internationalguitarnight.com/.  Brian got IGN going in the USA in 1995 and since 2000 it has become a major North American touring event.

You can hear some of Brian's work at http://uk.myspace.com/guitaristbriangore/music/albums/path-of-least...).

I hope to hear from you soon

Hi Tom

I represent two US-based singer/songwriters for whom I am searching for gigs in the UK in September and October 2013.

First there is Lizanne Knott.  Here are a couple of comments about her ...
"Absolutely gorgeous music.  We've rarely had as big a reaction to any artist in recent years as the one we had for Lizanne Knott." (Bob Harris: BBC Radio 2)

"Lizanne Knott is one of an increasing number of singer-songwriters that deserve to be household names."
(Mik Gaffney - Properganda #6, Proper Records UK)

Lizanne's website is at http://www.lizanneknott.com/.

I toured Lizanne in the UK for the first time in September-October 2012 and she was very well received indeed.
She has the unusual accolade of sellng at least one CD to every member of her audience at the Liverpool Philharmonic gig - I've
never heard of that happening before; most unusual.  BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris continues to be a big fan and plugs her recordings frquently.

Lizanne's tour dates are currently ...

SEPTEMBER 2013
Thu 26 Sep 13    Bury Met Arts
Fri 27 Sep 13    Liverpool
Sat 28 Sep 13    Dolgellau
Sun 29 to Tue 1   available

OCTOBER 2013
Tue 1 to Thu 3   available
Fri 4    Torphicen Bill Lothian
Sat 5    Cromarty, The Old Brewery
Sun 6    Kinross David Mundell
Mon 7   available
Tue 8    Glasgow Star FC
Wed 9 to 16    available
Thu 17    Swindon AC

Lizanne will be travelling with her partner Glenn Barrett (guitar).  Would you be able to host a concert for Lizanne during this tour?

Please do tell me to send you a copy of her new CD, "Standing In The English Rain".

The second act is Jim Page from Seattle whose website is at http://www.jimpage.net/

Jim has been writing songs for moons it seems - since the late 1960s, so he's been around a bit.

He released his first vinyl album of original music “A Shot Of The Usual,” in 1975, followed quickly by two more
before he arrived in the UK in 1977 to live and tour for the next six years.  Christy Moore popularised some of Jim's songs, most notably
"Hiroshina-Nagasaki Russian Roulette".  In 2007 Jim was included in an all star list of the “50 Most Influential Musicians In Seattle History.”
Back in the USA now for about 30 years he's had a hankering to tred the UK boards again and is touring here throughout October 2013.

OCTOBER 2013
Tue 1 to Fri 4  available
Sat 5    Belper
Sun 6    London Walthamstow
Mon 7 to Thu 10  available
Fri 11    Trowbridge (Wilts) Village Pump
Sat 12 and Sun 13  available
Mon 14    Stirling FC
Tue 15 to Sun 20  available
Mon 21 to Sun 27   Irish dates

Would you be able to host a concert for Jim during this tour?

For more information on both these acts please do have a look in our DropBox at their promo packs ---
Lizanne's is at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/c0cxq6zhtft27ci/H6rMRYOuyv
Jim's is at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8lg22ljwrto2skt/ZKtlyOzXSK (there are six audio tracks there.  I don't have CD's to mail out for Jim)

I look forward to hearing from you.
