De Rosa (w/Clockwork & Sarah Thomson), Royal Hotel, Portree – 27th March 2009
I noticed, looking at the bill for Lanarkshire prog-rockers De Rosa’s show in Portree last week, that I went to school with everyone except the band themselves. Currently on an outreach tour in some of the more remote reaches of Scotland (with gigs in Fort William, Mull, and Aberdeen), De Rosa have been playing in town halls and makeshift venues all over the country. It just so happened that our paths… Continue

I'm loving it again! Jumping in my 1988 Lancer and prancing up and down those beautiful highways and biways...
and..of course it led me here..To The House Concert Hub. In search of more experiences...
I took the last few years off from the road, I… Continue

I wrote, a blog or two ago, "John Barleycorn beware".
It appears I wasn't kidding. I have finally set myself to learning it, and delighting in developing a guitar part for it (that I can actually play). I've taken as my model Chris Wood's version and before that a version by Martin Carthy - so plenty to try and live up to there I think.
I absolutely love this song; it's deep, deep resonance with that part of me descended from Cotswold peasantry perhaps. Or simply because I… Continue

A giant of an individual once shared a seat on the bus with me. We sat in silence and watched the road pass by. I had the aisle seat. I have forgotten where I was going now yet I distinctly remember the smell of the bus, the bag lady sitting next to us, and the colors of the city I was in.
The person who was sitting next to me had brown eyes and hair. They seemed to be of working class origins I noticed the roughness of the hand that shook mine. It was much like mine. At a stoplight… Continue

Out walking my dog Jack today and noted the lack of any greenery still, in hedgerow or verge. But I can FEEL it's there, green sap silently rising, hesitant but inexorable. Going to run full tilt into the arms of the Spring Goddess. Which may give her a bit of a shock. And provided the old knee holds up. Jotted down a few words for a song that might be. God I love the English countryside - its reassuring yet fragile permanence. 900 year old Saxon church in the foreground, thumping great power… Continue

This is a really busy month, with close to 50 events in the SF Bay Area before I leave for Paris at the beginning of April. I'm pacing myself...trying to make sure to get enough sleep, but so very excited and working on lots of music, recordings, and gigs. I hope that, through this site, we'll be able to make the world a much smaller place by coming together from so many countries to enjoy music together.

When I was little I used to go with my family to house concerts long before that's what they were called. They are a great way to bring people together through music in an intimate setting and they create a sense of community. That this is such an international site is really incredible. Thank so much to Rob for starting this site.
