This is a live version of my song 8.19 which is going to be on my second album which is called Ghost and is out later in the year. The “synth” type noise is an ebow run through a whammy pedal. Pre-order 'Calm the Rising Waters', the new album by Lou Brown

Hi friends,

You can now pre-order your copy of Lou Brown's new album 'Calm the Rising Waters' from www.loubrownmusic.com. Lou's second album has been produced by Clive Gregson and features the 13 tracks described by Fatea magazine as "well-considered vignets that have a subtle americana/blues flavour rippling through the cool as ice performances".

Included on the album are 11:23 and Saving Lives, as featured on the Iain Anderson… Continue

BELFAST TO BERLIN

BELFAST TO BERLIN

It was like God was twisting out the water from a wet, grey flannel blanket the day that I arrived in Belfast. February 25th, 2010. The good news was that The Crown Bar was directly across the street from my hotel.

I had read about The Crown in one of my favorite novels, "Gospel" by Wilton Barnhardt, and the old place certainly lived up to its convivial, venerable hype and it might almost live up to its claim that it is, as their t-shirt declares, 'The… Continue

Cafe Noodle - The Story So Far

A few weeks ago we thought we'd try something - an online venue based around a "ning" network. So I posted out to some of our friends to see what would happen.

It's been great really - friendships have been made and in a very short time I think its become a remarkable community which I am very proud to be part of. Some great collaborative projects have happened and some brilliant points have been… Continue

Excited to return to Europe for Summer '10 tour!, Smile, it's good 4 U!

Did you know that that timeless song "Smile (though your hear is aching)" was written by Charlie Chaplin for the movie Modern times in 1936?

Michael Jackson and Nat King Cole both did popular versions later. My favorite is by Madeleine Peyroux.

Did you know that smiling is beneficial to your health?

I looked up the health benefits after reading Thich Nhat Hanh's book Being Peace, which reminded me of the importance of meditation, breathing, and smiling. I… Continue

Sunday Free Noodle 10

This week’s noodle is:

Matt Stevens (Guitars) - Spencer Park(Norwich Bootleg) Live 08

This is a live version of my song Spencer Park - its an audience recording from a gig I did in Norwich a couple of years ago - the quality of the recording isn’t great - one mic in the audience but I’ve cleaned it up as best i can. I was playing in a cafe bar - you can really hear the audience moving around. I like it that you can hear my pedals clicking and the glasses of the audience. As it… Continue

Sweet toothed serpent

Just checked out Viper Central on the Medicine Show. Completely unable to prevent my toes from tapping and hands reaching for the jug of moonshine stashed beneath my workbench. What a rich, sweet jangle of strings and tangle of voices. Casts a spell not quite like anything I've heard before. Take that pretty girl by the hand and climb through the mountain mist and scent of pine resin, for this is courtly music with burred edges. Lovely.

The Skunnered on radio

Hi, If you are able to tune into CelticMusicRadio online, or if in the Glasgow area on 1530mw/am We (The Skunnered)are one of two bands that were supporting the Ivan Drever Band (IVB) at a recent concert. They are broadcasting highlights of this show this Saturday between 4-6pm. The other band is called Jane & The Shame who play some glorious Americana music.

IVB are also well worth a listen. Ivan's singing style and songs are close to what Dougie McLean does but with a rockier harder… Continue

Sunday Free Noodle 9

This week’s noodle is:

Matt Stevens (Guitars/live loops) - Flies In The Basement(There’s A Plug On That) Live 07

This is a live version of my song Flies in The Basement live at the Edinburgh Cellars in Stoke Newinton North London from 2007 recorded at one of the music born nights. It was interesting for me to hear it especially as I don’t play it live anymore and I’d not heard this for years - i found… Continue

A New Jess Wayne Review - Somehow Overlooked from 3 Years Ago

Just found this from the "Miews". I think it says some interesting things, particularly about ageism in music and the treatment of older singer songwriters. I think my feelings were hurt when he or she only gave a "6" on Vocals... but as I read on, not so bad in context. :) JESS WAYNE – RIDE THE RIVER (MUSIC REVIEW)RATING: 7.5 / 10Genre: Rock, Blues, AmericanaSongwriting: 8.5 | Music: 8 | Vocals: 6Location: Glendale, CAWebsite: www.jesswayne.comFor fans…See More
