14 years to make an album?
When UK four-piece band Saloon Dogs recorded all the tracks for their Shooting Star album in a couple of short sessions at the end of 1995 and mastered them in early 1996, they thought getting the recordings released would only be a matter of time. And they were right. But what a lot of time it's taken.
Fast forward to 2010, two marriages, eight children, a drummer in New Zealand and two singers in Ireland and somehow, despite the distance, the… Continue

“Straightforward folk-pop songs with perfect harmonies...Shooting Star" contains ten great songs...The music is catchy, sometimes happy, sometimes sad but always honest. "Shooting Star" is a wonderfully entertaining album” – altcountryforum.nl
“The songs have a distinctively acoustic sound and come over as delightful folksy pop songs, but with an immediacy that would indicate they would very definitely suit live performance...Opening with When I look In Your Eyes, the band… Continue

Just 3 weeks until I'll be officially a student, which is a surprising yet exciting turn in my life, a couple of years ago I'd never have guessed that I'd be becoming a student. I am moving to Aberdeen, Scotland's most thriving city, and naturally, I don't want to have to "go on the pole". I don't think I'd make a particularly good stripper - there might be places where slightly overweight men with beards look sexy, however I don't fancy going to such places, never mind becoming a stripper in… Continue

Flying out of Atlanta tomorrow for Europe to start my fall tour. I've been practicing hard but it's when you hit that stage it's all worth it, the buzz of performing..once you catch that bug it never leaves you.
I don't need to tell you guys what it's like, the pleasure of sharing your songs, connecting with the audience, just plain entertaining them and having fun with it..that's the real kick.
One of the big highlights of this tour for me will be meeting Rob Ellen who does such a… Continue

In response to the suggestion by Kay Frew that perhaps lessons could be learned from the experience of the last few weeks I have been thinking of a few ground rules for the coffee shop.
I was chatting with Mark (coffee shop proprietor) and we concluded that the night starts well and often gets a bit 'lumpy' or even 'thin' towards the end. Drop in guests from the local Hotels rarely stay long which suggest that the quality of music… Continue

It seems that everywhere I turn these days folks are eulogizing the music industry and what I think they're doing, me included, is eulogizing their own hopes and dreams....the dream of the big hit, the cash bonanza, the big burrito full of cabbage. I even heard millionaire and legendary songwriting icon, Smokey Robinson, the other day on TV saying that we've gone back to 'the era of the minstrel, where everyone is making music but no one is… Continue

Arrived a few hours ago...everything arrived --the guitar, the dobro, the Frenchman...we're all good, and I love my new flight case (it has wheels!). It's 90' and windy. We have about a 400-mile drive tomorrow to Missouri for the first concert. Very much looking forward to it and to seeing this part of the world. Pierre says that he's much more American than I am (true), so he's going to introduce me to the culture here. Time to hit the hay...

Played quite a bizarre gig last night, the Millennium Music Hall Cardiff. I opened for 'The Tom Jones Experience'; a ten piece tribute band with all the trimmings. I took along my Accordion/percussionist, we played a nice eight song set in front of around 300 people, they were very generous with the applause which was nice because my acoustic style is quite different from the big band sound of '"Tom". Anyway "Tom" and the lads and lasses came on and started burning up the… Continue
