What is it that makes a song shine? Is it the structure, theme, a catchy refrain...? Yes, all of these, I know, and much more.
I am always amazed to see Forest in the act of song writing. It's like watching a sculptor give shape to a piece of marble. I like watching it come to life and recognizing its features.
And then, in a matter of…

Update on recent activities

2011 has been a busy year.  Not long back from getting through to the semi-finals of the Songwriting Competition in Donegal, Ireland.  While over there, I was invited to do a live show and interview with Marianne Ashcroft at icrfm.x  Listen at Heartbeat Interview

Festive Concerts in Italy last weekend...

i love Italy!

I feel so lucky to have played two lovely shows near Como, Italy, this past weekend! Thank you Damiano Della Torre (keyboards/vocals) for putting together a great cast of musician friends both nights - different players, various vibes, and marvelous feelings and sound!

Just signed up for this service...I can't wait to bring my music to the "old Country."  I've always wanted to tour Europe, and I'm hoping this will be a double whammy.  I'm going to try to book some shows overseas for 2-3 weeks in the late spring or summer.  Hopefully I can make it happen.  I just love the hell out of music and life and can't wait to try this whole thing out!

Then he’d return the brush for more shades of blue and red, after a quick spin in the rinse water. It’s incredible, watching the end result of a watercolor painting spread into view. How did he manage to capture the expressions and feelings we had? He must have felt what we were feeling, because as I stood there and gazed in wonderment at his…

R.I.P. Johnnie Fats music legend (The song is over but the melody will linger)

John (Fats) Sutherland had been performing since his early teens and was a stalwart on the Caithness music scene. Photo: Fergus Mather.

A great life in music was ended by a heart attack last Thursday, we lost one of the worlds true orginals and I lost a friend.

What you saw was what you got with John, he was as staight as the nights are long at this time of year in Caithness, and when he talked he talked with as much authority as he played his guitar, needless to say in both cases, I was happy to do some listening…
