ACT ONE: It’s 1968, and Bob Wootton quits his job as a bartender, and catches a ride to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to see his favorite musician Johnny Cash play at a political rally for Governor Winthrop Rockefeller. Cash’s band is delayed. Wootton’s girlfriend at the time finds June (Carter Cash), and tells her that her boyfriend knows all of Johnny’s songs. Bob is invited backstage, and handed a guitar. Without an ounce of nerves, Wootton hits every note; he
continues to play across the globe with Cash for another thirty years; from Folsom Prison to the Buckingham Palace. He becomes Cash’s friend, body guard, and even stunt double. When Cash quits playing music in 1998, due to failing health, Bob hangs up his guitar too, and takes a job driving tour buses for other musicians.
ACT TWO: It’s 2003, and Wootton meets Six Mile Grove frontman Brandon Sampson, through a mutual friend, when driving a band through Minnesota. Sampson, a long time Cash fan, encourages Wootton to pick up his guitar again. In January 2004, Wootton returns to Minnesota with guitar in hand, to play the “Cash Only” tribute show with Six Mile Grove as his band. The two night show sells out, and the fans go wild for Wootton’s legendary guitar sound, and
uncanny resemblance to Cash, in voice and stature. Wootton begins making frequent trips to Minnesota to tour with Six Mile Grove. Six Mile Grove opens the act with their original music, and brings Bob on stage, to bring “the Songs and Sounds of Johnny Cash” to life for fans of all ages.
ACT THREE: It’s 2012, Wootton and Six Mile Grove are taking to the road again, this time to promote the release of this collaboration “Guaranteed Cash,” an album of classic Johnny Cash tunes, as well as the upcoming release of Six Mile Grove’s sixth album, Secret Life in a Quiet Town, due out this Spring.
THE PLAYERS: BOB WOOTTON is the real deal. He still picks the “boom chicka boom” out of a guitar the way he did for 30 years when touring with Johnny Cash, as an original member of “The Tennessee Three.” What he says of Six Mile Grove: “We have a good time. They’re like family to me. They’re just good all-American boys. There’s nothing fancy about them and they don’t try to be something they’re not. And that’s what I like about them, because that’s how I am. I try not to act like somebody, because I’m not. I’m just lucky I get to do what I do.” SIX MILE GROVE is a band of earnest-faced hardworking farm boys who’ve been writing and playing original music together since 1997. They are releasing their 6th album, “Secret Life in a Quiet Town,” in spring of 2012.Touring The UK soon in support of both of these albums.
