Happy Hosting, Happy New Year - Rob Ellen

The House Concert Hub NEEDS YOU!! ( end of year report & looking forward to our 5th Birthday).

We are 25 members short of 2,000 and we have in the region of 200 featured members (Hosts) I still have hopes we can achieve those land mark numbers by Jan 3rd 2014 our 5th Birthday, Happy Birthday to us"!!

here are the latest stats for unique visits
            Total ...................... 215,469
            Average per Day ................ 147
            This Week .................... 1,030

We have together organised countless gigs all across this continent, and it is my pride to know that we have all made lasting connections and friendships over the 5 years the Hub has been running
However for all of these years, personally I have been travelling through the valley of the shadow of deficit in my efforts to grow and maintain this community. My original vision for the Community to run on house concert principles.
IE by donation, is proving to be under threat. People do donate, and some very regularly, I thank those folks deeply, but given the traffic here at the site and the number of active members, its kind of disheartening that maintaining this community and our sister site Flyingshoes Review still cost me money every month after 5 years of constant tending and propagation I can't let that carry on.

So in these austere times I need to think about ways to turn this around if we are to survive to see year 6. I am open to suggestions, but here's what I am proposing to do. Please do let me know what your think.
  1. As a birthday celebration and to promote the site and members who are booking dates here, I'm proposing we release a 5th Birthday Media compilation to send to the Key media in CD and promote around the community stations and Pod/broadcaster digitally on social networks  (Thats what I do for a living and whats been supporting this community) So artists and managers to be involved it will only cost £50 ($80) a song. We have done this to great effect with our Festive Collection here www.medicineshowrecord.co.uk
  2. We are only talking about $120 a month, so if some one was to come in as a sponsor for that amount I would not consider changing much other than the redesign "spruce up" that I'm planing for our birthday anyway.
  3. Ive decided to downgrade FSR (its still getting the same kind of viewing figures) so unfortunately members won't be able to post music now (but can still post widgets and videos from youtube) that will save £20 a month ($30) I'm resisting doing that here because I feel its important that prospective hosts can listen to people from the player on the front page and don't have to leave an artist hub site to listen and see who they are considering for a booking.
  4. If your an artists and your booking dates in 2014, consider joining the The Enhanced Membership group (as well as the CD list) with all its obvious advantages read more here
  5. Use the donate button and when asked to renew your membership please throw something in the hat.
  6. I'll have a look at this again at the end of January and if its still costing me money I feel I have have to put a membership fee on the community for everyone except enhanced members. That would be a great shame as I fully expect traffic to slump if that is the case and I know other promoters as well as members and and simply fans are using this site as a resource to see who is setting up dates.  I want to keep this community as vibrant as it is, but I just can't afford it to be costing me money any-more .As the fare and reasonable minded people i know our members to be, I'm sure you wouldn't want it that way either.

I look forward to your thoughts.

A New Jess Wayne Review - Somehow Overlooked from 3 Years Ago

Just found this from the "Miews". I think it says some interesting things, particularly about ageism in music and the treatment of older singer songwriters. I think my feelings were hurt when he or she only gave a "6" on Vocals... but as I read on, not so bad in context. :) JESS WAYNE – RIDE THE RIVER (MUSIC REVIEW)RATING: 7.5 / 10Genre: Rock, Blues, AmericanaSongwriting: 8.5 | Music: 8 | Vocals: 6Location: Glendale, CAWebsite: www.jesswayne.comFor fans…See More
