Happy Hosting, Happy New Year - Rob Ellen

What a terrific night at Grateful Fred's last night!!
I absolutely loved it. "Phil Lee", "The Mighty King of Love" was just wonderful. Such a character and a really, really fun guy. Great songs, great harmonica, great guitar (on Martin and a National) and wonderful stories. It was also the first time Les and I had been brought on stage by a headliner to sing DoWop backing vocals, and with Ged and Frank onstage too it was a real pleasure for the Grateful Fred Band. Thanks to our wonderful audience of Fredheads for coming out and supporting us once again. Thanks to Mary-Lou for being such a good sport when Phil decided to focus on her for some saucy singing and George for my wonderful little Vox amp!! I know the "Little Fred's" that he gifts to our headliners take them on their journeys to some wonderfully exotic places and Phil's new "Little Fred" is destined to travel from Nashville to California when Phil relocates there when he gets home. As we speak, I know "Little Fred" is sitting on the dashboard of Rob and Phil's VW Golf hire car speeding down to Camden for tonight's show.
Barbara and I then had the real pleasure of hosting Phil and the lovely Rob Ellen overnight and for a late supper and a few drinks. They are great company and they have done so many really weird, wonderful and unusual things in their lives we could have listened to them all night.
Rob has invited us up to the Highlands in the future and we're definitely going to take him up on that so we can attend some of the great Americana and acoustic festivals and events that Rob promotes or is involved with. You can find out more about the great work Rob does for Americana and acoustic music in the UK and overseas by visiting the European House Concert website. Rob was the guy who got me started with all of this and inspired me to start Grateful Fred's 4 years ago. (Barbara would say he's got a lot to answer for!!). :-)
Next we've got our second "Grateful Fred at The Lomax" in Liverpool with "Edwina Hayes" on Wednesday 21st of August. I have had so many people, including Phil and Rob, tell me what a fabulous singer and songwriter Edwina is so I'm really looking forward to that. You can get tickets for that on the Grateful Fred main website. It's only £3.50 in advance and £5.00 on the door. (For a really superb "live" artiste!!).
After that we have the sensational "Carrie Rodriguez" who is so hot in the USA at the moment. She has recently appeared on so many leading US music radio shows and podcasts and this is going to be a fantastic Grateful Fred Night. Tickets are already selling really, really well online and I am certain this is going to be a complete sell out so please dont' miss out, book as soon as you can online at the Grateful Fred website.
Hopefully we'll see you at The Lomax or at the Carrie Rodriguez show on the 4th of September.
Colin (aka. Grateful Fred).
