Hello,

I’m constantly looking for gigs and any tips would be greatly appreciated! Everything's of interest: Club gigs, open mike nights, festivals, house concerts, prisons, funerals, baptisms - weddings not so!

KENT NIELSEN (DK) – Ukulele Folk Punk / Singer/Songwriter!

"Echoes of JON LANGFORD and RYAN ADAMS. There's something more immediate about this stripped-down version of Kent Nielsen". (R2 Magazine (UK) / Peter Tomkins)

Kent Nielsen is Danish but living in Lübeck (North Germany). He’s got a history as an author, percussionist, shoe shop clerk, record label guy, mail order honcho, night porter and ukulele player a. o. But there’s one thing he’s been doing for ages – and that’s singing. At the end of 2016, he completed an old idea – his first „solo album“. Roughly half of the roots rock colored songs were written together with Stefan Kletetzka (DEEP RIVER), some were brand new while a couple dated back to Kent and Stefan’s time in ONE BAR TOWN. Four covers were added, one by JOHN HARTFORD and another three originally written by GLEN CAMPBELL, EDDIE & THE HOT RODS and C.V. JØRGENSEN featuring Kent solo on the ukulele. Three more songs, drenched in Mod and 60s sounds, were written together with Helge Reich (JAM TODAY).  The album also includes guest appearances from George Whitfield (FIDDLEBOX, ex-PRESSGANG) and Martin Wenk (CALEXICO, NADA SURF, JUDITH HOLOFERNES).

The following tour took Kent through: Germany, Switzerland, England, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Incl. festivals such as: Rebellion Blackpool (three years in a row), Kirstyfest 2017 (UK), Thinking Pink Festival (UK), Punk Rock BBQ (UK), Rebellion Amsterdam (NL), Nostalgurato Fest (DK, twice) and the Winterswijk Ukulele Hotspot (NL), just to name a few. More countries are being planned for 2019.

„Between the HOT RODS and CALEXICO." (Chris Elstrodt, Folker Magazine)

Out in November, his autobiographical memoir: 'How I didn't turn out a dancer' (A co-production between the German Ventil Publishing House and Ox-Fanzine, ISBN 978-3-95575-103-6).

Hello from Ireland Marlous,

I am new to the house concert scene and would love to perform a house concert in the in the spring/summer 2018. I am a musician & and music therapist from Ireland and through my experiences of travel, education in both ethnomusicology and music therapy my music covers a lot of genres such as reggae, folk and Khoomi (Mongolian throat singing). My live shows incorporate techniques of mindfullness and self-inquiry which can develop a dialogue between myself and the audience related to the human condition, shamanism, music and healing and the relationship between music, self awareness and self- discovery.

Hi, My name is Stuart Markus, and I am with an Americana/Roots harmony trio from New York called Gathering Time. Our latest CD, Keepsake, was #1 on Folk DJ-List (the international folk radio chart) in March 2016 with the #1 song and 5 other songs in the top 25, making us the #1 artist for the month also; we came in at #4 for the year.
Since 2012, we have often toured in partnership with an the roots/Americana singer Mara Levine. Her CD Jewels and Harmony was #1 for January 2013 and #3 for that year on the international Folk DJ chart. Typically, we do a set of our own songs as well as backing Mara on hers.
We have been booked together to play a music festival in Ehingen, Germany (near Stuttgart) on Saturday, April 14, 2018, and we're hoping to book a tour in Europe to run from around Saturday, April 7th to Sunday the 15th of next year.
The best way to describe Gathering Time is as a co-ed Crosby, Stills & Nash, with a bit of the Byrds and a jot of Joni Mitchell. Mara Levine is best known as an arranger and interpreter of American traditional songs and those by songwriters of the '60s like Tim Hardin, Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon, as well as contemporary ones.
It is worth noting that we are capable of doing either shows of mostly original songs (or in Mara’s case songs by modern songwriters) OR specialty tribute theme shows entirely of '60s American folk and folk-rock. (Information on those is listed at the 'specialty shows' page of our website. Whichever a venue prefers, we're happy to do.
Full bios, photos, music and videos of Gathering Time are available at www.gathering-time.com, www.youtube.com/gatheringtimetrio and
www.soundcloud.com/gatheringtime; information on Mara (and her music) are available at www.maralevine.com.

We would love to hear back from you.

At 14:47 on October 1, 2015, Low Country Hill said…

Hello Marlous,

My name is Paul Hogeterp and I am a musician/songwriter from Hamilton, Canada.  In November 2014, I released my debut solo record under the moniker Low Country Hill.  The self-titled record was produced by Dave King at his lovely Barn Window Studio on the outskirts of Hamilton.  I am pleased that Pat Sansone from Wilco and Bill Dillon (Joni Mitchell, Robbie Robertson, Peter Gabriel) lent their playing and artistry to the record.  Recently, Low Country Hill received a 2015 Hamilton Music Awards nomination in the Roots/solo category and was a Hamilton regional finalist in CBC Searchlight 2015.

Low Country Hill...evoke(s) comparisons to such stalwarts as Hey Rosetta and Bon Iver, but yet really does not sound particularly like either. The tracks stand on their own as testaments to superlative songwriting and an album produced to showcase haunting, beautiful music. -Floorshime Zipper Boots

Truly a product of its environment, Low Country Hill is a provocative experimentation in sound and shape...it features sonic sculptures with a sense of experimentation but grounded with heart and soul, and evokes the subdued comforts of a warm abode amidst a cold, punishing but beautiful landscape. -Kent Heberling, Those Who Dig

I've been playing solo shows (and occasional full band performances) in central Canada throughout 2015 and hope to tour in The Netherlands and Germany in late February/early March 2016.  I've very much enjoyed playing house concerts in Canada and would love to make house concerts the primary focus of a tour in Europe.

Please check the links below to find out more about Low Country Hill:

Thanks for your time, Marlous.  Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kindly,
Paul
